About the Exhibitor

Jacobo and María Ángeles

Settled in San Martín Tilcajete community, Oaxaca, where they have their atelier, Master carver Jacobo and his wife María are creators of images carved from copal wood; a tree considered sacred by the community. Their artistic proposal is due to their Zapotec heritage, the continuous experimentation and collective construction they have driven, which has allowed them to generate an aesthetic and style that characterize them.

Remigio Mestas

Known as the alchemist of textiles, a traveling man who protects, rescues, and renews the textile tradition of the 8 regions of Oaxaca. He says that textiles keep a soul, a smell, and energy, the essence of the artisans who weave and embroider them. Wise man of three magical colors, the purple snail (el Caracol púrpura), the cochineal bug (la Grana cochinilla) and the indigo (el Añil) all three natural pigments. He works with more than 500 artisan women throughout Oaxaca and has fought for years for fair payment for their work.

Carlomagno Pedro

To speak of black clay is to speak of San Bartolo Coyotepec. It is said that Coyotepec’s clay is painted in black by the night. Eminently artisanal, it is the hometown of Carlomagno Pedro where he would sit with his family in a circle working clay together as a child. That is why his work reflects the tales, the legends, and the personal stories that he recreates in his imaginary and molds in powerful clay pieces.
