Barbara Jordan was a pioneering figure in American politics, leaving an indelible mark on the nation's history. In 1984, twenty two years after its opening, this building, the former Houston U.S.P.S. headquarters, was renamed in honor of Barbara Jordan, the South’s first female African American legislator elected to the US Congress.
